Want to close my posts to this thread by welcoming 'aojumper' to the fray of this conversation and thanking him/her for being willing to jump into such a topic as a 'newbie'(something I was unable to do). Hope you continue to post your opinions. It's not so much about being right or wrong(IMHO), but being able to express you opinion(without the threat of expulsion) here that is so great.

Long prayers at the hall
by JH inin every congregation there is always a brother who gives a marathon prayer.
in my congregation there was a brother whose prayers were so long that i decided to time his prayer with my watch.
it lasted about 3-4 minutes.

Let me back up a bit and ask you to tell me what you believe about the 'angels who forsook their own proper places' Jude(6) and 'Nephilim' statements in the bible(Gen 6:2-4). Who are the 'sons of the true God' at Gen 6:2?

Just because some of say that the US is a bully doesn't mean we don't mind living here. That would be like concluding an argument with your husband/wife with:
"We just don't agree so I'm off to live with someone else."
I have done a lot of things for this country, including killing those whom I had no animosity against. Just doing my job. That doesn't make it right, nor does it make me feel better. It was wrong before I became a JW; it is still wrong today, post JW. When you have to look down at a life you've taken, it kinda takes the urge outa kickin' someone's ass for ANY reason.

More accurately, the US is trying to protect a way of life. Ask any black who was discriminated against back then. Ask any Indian who lost his land to being placed on a reservation. Can't get too pumped up about us beating the shit out of another country just cuz they are just now going through what the US went through ahead of them.
The US is not God, capable of deciding what is right or wrong for the rest of the planet. Yet, I can't help but see the similarities between some of their posturing and the WT. A classic Bush statement,
"Either you are with us or against us."
The way of the US is the right way. Russia was the 'evil' empire according to Reagan; Bush has his 'axis of evil'. Yet, the US is so righteous. Can't wait until they start calling other countries that refuse to fall in line with their policies 'apostate'. They already practice shunning through sanctions; forgiven when the country repents and comes back into the US fold.

It was merely speculation. But it is hard to imagine that Saddam doesn't seek some sort of revenge for the Gulf War or, better yet, the 'no fly' zone that protects the Kurds and others in his own country opposed to Saddam's government from missile strikes from Saddam.
Let's suppose that the Russians in the 50's decided that they didn't like how the US was treating the 'black' populace at that time and set up a 'no fly' zone over a section of the US to give those being persucuted by the policies of said government added protection. Or the Indians before them. As a country, the US would be willing to do whatever to throw off such domination. Can't see where it's any different for Iraq.
This does not mean I approve of how Saddam is treating some of his own people, but who made the US the world's police that they (with their own historical past) have the right to interfere? I would like to believe that it is because as a nation, the US has moved beyond such barbarism. But, in reality(as was the case with interrogating potential terrorists after 911), instead of the US torturing prisoners to gain information(forbidden by US conscience and law), they simply shipped them off to Egypt where torture for info is the norm.
